I posted a confession over on Instagram this morning that I know some of you fellow business owners and makers can relate too. The confession?
I'm back with another round of Monday motivation for my military mom's, and wives because we are in the midst of another overseas PCS and I'm about to pull my hair out. If you've been through any PCS, you know what I'm talking about. If you've had to try to get 2 dogs and 4 people and a household of stuff from Japan to Europe in the middle of a school year, then girl, have a drink, and know I'm right there with you. Here's a little bit of love to get you through the week.
Ok, I've got 99 Problems & this PCS has caused all of them. This is in fact a true story, TMO I'm looking at you. You have caused about 90 of the 99.
Now that my kiddos are back in school for a few weeks before we head around the world, I've been working on a ton of parties to blog! Keep an eye out in the coming weeks!
If any of you other military mama's have any advice on surviving running a business and moving around the world, let me hear it! Heading to Japan wasn't this hard.
I am SUPER excited to show my enthusiasm for PCSing with the shirt I just ordered from one of my favorite Milspouse businesses, The Rosie Project Apparel. They have a bunch of really cute military themed shirts for the whole family. Click the pictures below, to check them out.
Oh man you guys, this past month was a doozy. You may have noticed, we've been practically non existent on Social Media since January. I spent most of January preparing for my husband's deployment and then all of February trying to survive said deployment. He'll be gone for a few more months, but I think my tiny humans and I, finally have some sort of a routine down.
This weeks Monday mantra's are mainly for myself. A little reminder that even though life is a little rough right now, sometimes you just have to suck it up and keep going.
I'll be trying to get back into a Social Media routine this month and have a bunch of goodies, I've been working on in my very limited spare time. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks!
If any of you other military mama's have any advice on surviving running a business and keeping little one's occupied while daddy's away, let me know! I'd love to hear it!
Over the weekend I finally chose my word for 2016. I was so excited that I ran downstairs and told my husband who proceeded to say "You have to have a word? Is it like a hashtag or something"? Talk about anticlimactic. Sorry my dear instagramhusband, but yes this year I feel the need, like so many others of you, to have a "word".
Have you picked your word yet? Share it with us over on twitter! For me/us, 2016 is the year to Create.
I personally spent most of 2015 focusing on keeping a business going while having a newborn and a toddler at my feet every second. There was a whole lot of surviving, (both in business and in life) and not very much creating. This year, that will change. Kara and I both have a ton of fun projects planned for this year, and hope that you guys love them as much as we do.
This weekend I also sat down and read Big Magic finally. It was everything I was expecting and so much more and has me so fired up to dig even deeper into my creativity this year. This book is a must read for creatives. Although as stated in the book "If You're Alive, You're A Creative Person". Really, go get it. Now.
Also super exciting, Kara's been busy getting her creativity on and is rolling out some new city prints to add to the collection. First up Portland! Get it here. If you haven't checked out her prints in the shop, you need to. They inspire some serious wanderlust.
This Monday is a little special. It's the last Monday of 2015 and 2016 is literally right around the corner. We're taking a little time to let you know what we want 2016 to be for us. We'll celebrate our 4th birthday this year and are so excited for the projects we have lined up (including the launch of our new shop, eeek!!).
If you're ready for a little goal chat, let's get started! We'd love to hear what goals you've got picked out for this year, talk to us on Twitter, @mkkmdesigns.
If you follow us on Instagram, you may have noticed that a few of our #mantramonday posts have been about slowing down, narrowing our focus, and creating more of what we love vs. what everyone would want.
A while back, Kara and I were talking about re-branding and couldn't come up with anything. After a while we joked about how "our brand loves your brand". It's true, we both LOVE what other people are doing out there right now. As much as we love it, we realized that it's absolutely not what WE should be doing. We have to face it, neither one of us will ever be any good at calligraphy. (Which by the way was my 2014 resolution that has yet to be met).
2016 is the year where we'll do us. I can't even count how many times in the past year, I've been asked to make printables about a certain wintery ice queen or superhero. I also can't count how many times I've had to just say no. We want people to swoon over our creations, not try to pick which Disney invite was created best.
Now, to just explain this to my 3 year old who will probably be asking for an Avenger's party in the fall. . .
Our 2nd goal this year is to find our people. Whether that's fellow girl bosses who may need design help, or the every girl who just want Pinterest worthy prints and parties, we want to talk to you.
I just recently started joining in on twitter chats ( btw #creativecoffeehour and #fireandwindco are a couple of my fav's) at the end of this year, and realized how much fun it is to actually talk to people. We've spent the last 3 years sitting behind our computer desk's working away and haven't spent anytime actually getting to know people out there in the internet world.
In 2016, we want to get to know you! Community over competition everyone. We also want everyone to get to know US! You can start at our about page, but we'll also be better about sharing who we are this year.
Our last goal goes hand in hand with our first. After 3 years of spreading ourselves thin, it's finally time to realize that you ( or in this case, we) don't have to do everything. This year will be about getting help when needed, learning to turn projects down, and becoming more organized #girlbosses. Using tools like Buffer and Evernote have been my lifesaver at the end of this year, and I can only imagine how much better it will be after using them for a whole year.
We can't wait to see what 2016 will bring for us! Join our newsletter below, as we head into the year loaded with lots of fun projects to bring your way.
Bonus! Here's a couple of our personal goals!
Kara wants to quit drinking soda and learn how to code.
I want to be better about exercising and with my hubs deploying soon, get better organized in life.
